Originally from the prairies of Minnesota, I painted in oils as a teenager before beginning my formal study of art at the University of Minnesota. Eventually I switched majors earning a Ph.D. in English at Tufts University. I lived in the Boston area and taught at the college level for twenty years. I later moved on to Athens, Georgia, in 1991 and rekindled my love of painting. Since 1997, I have devoted myself full time to art. An artist friend in Maine introduced me to pastels and “plein air” painting.   I especially cherish painting on location on the lakes and coast of Maine with friends.
